Safety & Disclaimer

Important safety information you should read before using NeuroRest.

Important medical disclaimer

NeuroRest is not a medical device and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, treatment, or prevention.

This app is a consumer wellness product designed to help with relaxation and sleep onset, and has not been approved by any health authority for medical purposes. Binaural beats, soundscapes, sleep data, and analyses are for informational purposes only. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for any health concerns.

1.Who should not use this app

The following groups must consult a doctor first before using NeuroRest:

Epilepsy or photosensitive disorders

Although binaural beats are auditory, any rhythmic stimulation can pose a risk for individuals with epilepsy. Consult a neurologist first.

Implanted medical devices

If you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, neurostimulator, or similar device, consult your physician to confirm audio playback will not interfere.

Pregnancy

Discuss any external stimulation product with your obstetrician during pregnancy. While there is no evidence binaural beats harm a fetus, caution is advised.

Taking psychiatric medication

If you are on antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, or sleep medication, discuss any change to sleep routine with your psychiatrist first.

Hearing impairment or tinnitus

Severe hearing loss may prevent you from perceiving binaural beats. People with tinnitus should use audio products with extra caution.

Children under 13

NeuroRest is not for children under 13. Pediatric sleep concerns should be evaluated by a pediatrician — consumer audio is not a substitute for professional care.

2.Hearing safety

Prolonged listening at high volume can cause permanent hearing damage. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Keep volume below 70% of system volume. Binaural beats are effective at low volume — there is no need for loud playback.
  • Take a break of at least 10 minutes after every 60 minutes of continuous use.
  • iOS users can enable Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Headphone Safety → Reduce Loud Sounds, capping output at 75–85 dB.
  • Stop using the app and seek medical care if you experience tinnitus, ear fullness, or hearing changes.

3.When and where to use

NeuroRest is designed for use before sleep. Do not play sleep soundscapes during:

  • Driving a car, motorcycle, or bicycle.
  • Operating machinery, climbing, swimming, or any activity that requires alertness.
  • Situations where you must remain aware of your surroundings (e.g. caring for a young child, being alone in public).

Use the app in bed, in a quiet uninterrupted environment. The lock-screen background playback feature lets the audio continue while your screen is off.

4.Stop immediately if you experience discomfort

Stop using the app immediately and seek medical care if you experience any of the following:

  • Headache, dizziness, nausea.
  • Tinnitus, ear fullness, or hearing changes.
  • Anxiety, palpitations, shortness of breath.
  • Unusual muscle twitches or changes in awareness.
  • Worsening sleep quality with continued use.

Reactions vary. If you find yourself sensitive to binaural beats, pause use and reassess whether to continue.

5.Not a medical device · data accuracy

NeuroRest is not a medical device. The sleep analyses, heart-rate readouts, and sleep-onset estimates provided by the app are derived from consumer-grade sensors (Apple Health, Apple Watch) and cannot be used as a basis for clinical diagnosis.

If you suspect sleep apnoea, chronic insomnia, narcolepsy, restless-legs syndrome, or other sleep disorder, seek polysomnography (PSG) from a board-certified sleep specialist.

6.When to see a doctor

Stop relying on the app to improve sleep and seek medical care promptly if you experience any of:

  • ≥3 nights/week of sleep difficulty for 3 consecutive months or more.
  • Significant daytime sleepiness or cognitive decline that impairs daily function.
  • Pauses in breathing during sleep, severe snoring, or waking up gasping.
  • Recurrent sleepwalking, night terrors, sleep paralysis, or restless-legs symptoms.
  • Self-harm thoughts, suicidal ideation, or severe emotional distress.
